KOPTHONIUM chloride is a syntheticquaternary ammonium salt. It is a white crystalline
solid, soluble in water. These compounds are effective in low concentrations and active
against a wide variety of bacteria, yeasts, and fungus. Used as an antiseptic, disinfectant,
and preservatiave in various cosmetic and personal care. It is also used in hand sanitizers,
skin cleansers, surgical scrubs, mouthwashes, oral rinses, and dental products.

Application & Dosage
KOPTHONIUM Chloride can be used in Pharma – As an antimicrobial preservative in
injections, ophthalmic, and otic preparations. Cosmetics – Deodorants, rash cream, foot
odour powder, facial lotion, cleanser, makeup and sunscreen, mouthwash, anti-ich
ointment, antibacterial moist hand wipes, antiseptic, sanitizers. Food industry – Hard
surface disinfectant.
Pharma – 0.01% to 0.02 Cosmetic – Up to 0.5%. Cosmetic Ingredient review assessed this
ingredient to be used safely up to 0.5% in OTC skin care products (max – 0.02%
concentration in the eye area).
Stability & Storage Benzethonium Chloride should be stored in tightly sealed containers at room temperature, typically between 15ยฐC to 25ยฐC. It is relatively stable to light, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or UV radiation and excessive moisture can lead to degradation.
